Since 2010, there hasn't been a new installment of the gadget-heavy mystery games centered on the Freelance Police, AKA Sam & Max. The Devil's Playhouse by Telltale Games was the last time the two worked together.
Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual, set in a rundown theme park, will premiere in June 2021. Players can solve mini-games in a modern take on the traditional style and explore a 3D world in the full VR-enabled title.
Happy Giant's development team includes some industry heavyweights, including ex-Lucas arts employees who worked on the 1993 classic Sam & Max Hit The Road. Along with original creator Steve Purcell, writers Mike Stemmle, concept artist Peter Chan, and creative director Mike Levine all return to work on the project.
According to a press release from Happy Giant, “even multimedia evil-slappers like Sam & Max could use a hand,” and “this time they're using the incomprehensible magic of virtual reality to invite the player into their off-kilter world for a furious day of monster-slaying, obstacle courses, responsibly discharged firearms, and, of course, saving the entire freaking world.”
The game's first trailer released in 2020.
Skunk ape Games remastered all of Sam & Max's Telltale games last year. The point-and-click adventure fully remastered with a variety of additional features, including all six original episodes. On top of the well-loved games, enhanced graphics, wide screen settings, controlled support, and five all-new musical tracks added.
